Situated within the Bedford Stuyvesant Historic District, The federal-style 1887 townhouse boasts a relatively narrow footprint at 17 feet wide. The goal of the project was to infuse the interior with light and airiness, creating a cozy yet inviting abode perfectly suited for a small family.

The townhouse underwent a comprehensive gut renovation, addressing all essential systems including heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical, alongside a complete layout overhaul. We adeptly navigated the approval process with the NYC Landmarks Preservation Committee for the facade renovation, window replacement, and the addition of custom-designed skylights in three areas. ensuring compliance with historical preservation standards. A significant transformation occurred with the opening up of the rear facade on the garden level adding a 10 foot extension with its generous steel and glass window wall, seamlessly integrating the rear of the house, expanding the kitchen’s view, connecting it with the tranquil, Japanese-inspired backyard garden. Moreover, this intervention floods the garden level and kitchen with natural light, enhancing the overall sense of space and brightness.

Inside, we provided end-to-end interior design services, meticulously curating spaces to harmonize with the client’s prized art collection. She skillfully accentuated the original architectural features while infusing the space with playful, distinctive, and relaxed elements that resonate with the clients’ tastes. The result is a residence where modern functionality meets the timeless charm of its heritage, offering a seamless blend of past and present.

Our selection and blending of finishes consistently captivate. In this as in every project, our exceptional fusion of natural materials, textures, artisan-crafted fixtures, and hardware demonstrates an instinctive understanding of the specific environment.

We embarked on a distinctive path in interior curation, assembling a collection of furniture and objects marked by their unconventional charm rather than adhering strictly to conventional prestige or lineage. Instead of solely chasing after iconic pieces, Items were selected that drew attention through their unique design, intriguing forms, or captivating visual presence. This inclusive approach allowed for the incorporation of furnishings and deĢcor that might not typically be either commercially accessible or historically significant, but possessed an undeniable allure.

By curating this diverse mix of elements, we injected the space with an element of surprise and creativity, creating an atmosphere that is both visually captivating and emotionally resonant. Each piece contributes to the overall narrative of the interior, adding layers of interest and personality to the design scheme.

The end result is a dedication to exploring and celebrating the diversity of design, transcending conventional boundaries to craft a space that is as intellectually stimulating as it is visually striking.
